Service: Electric Motor Cleaning
Electric motors accumulate dust, debris, and dirt over time, leading to potential equipment breakdowns if not addressed. Traditional hand cleaning methods often fall short, unable to reach intricate parts and sometimes using solutions that can damage electrical components.
Business owners need a reliable, safe cleaning solution to maintain their equipment’s longevity and performance. Dry ice blasting is the ideal solution for these needs.
Read our case study to see how dry ice blasting effectively cleaned a large electric rotor and stator, preparing them for refurbishment and reuse.
The Situation
The Western team was reached out to by Flanders, an electrical equipment service centre, to partner on a project with them. Their client had sent over a large electric rotor and stator that they wanted to be refurbished. Part of the refurbishment process is repainting, which meant the rotor and stator had to be cleaned and totally free or dirt, which is why Flanders turned to us.
Their initial strategy had been to hand clean the parts, but after reviewing them, there was too much buildup and accumulation of dirt – it would take far too long to clean by hand. Knowing the capabilities of dry ice blasting, Flanders reached out to Western Dry Ice Blasting to see how we could support them in preparing the parts to be painted in their warehouse.
The Solution
We began by reviewing the parts and building a quote – once Flanders and their client were happy and ready to take action, we arrived on site to perform the cleaning.
Our team of two technicians arrived for the job, ready to work indoors on the project. We used rolling stairs to move around the large equipment, ensuring that we could reach all areas of the motor and stator to ensure they were cleaned effectively.
Dry ice blasting was chosen as it is a non-conductive cleaning method that uses no secondary solutions or chemicals to clean. This is ideal for electric motor parts, as they need to be cleaned in a way that ensures no reactions can occur.
These motors are also comprised of many delicate pieces, which must be cleaned so that no damage occurs while dust and other buildup are being removed. Our team used gentle dry ice blasting over these areas to remove the dirt while ensuring the parts remain in good condition.
The parts were stored indoors after our first cleaning, and there was a risk of dust landing on the equipment again, which required a second cleaning the next day once everything had settled.
The Results
Our team of technicians successfully cleaned the parts in two days. This quick completion meant that Flanders could dive into their painting job quickly, leaving their client pleased.
Flanders was happy with our performance and speed on this project, and our willingness to perform a second clean after dust accumulated on the parts. This positive outcome ensured the parts were cleaned well, and Flanders knew they could trust us to complete cleaning jobs thoroughly.
We look forward to working together on further projects in the future.
